Working and living as a physio in Switzerland
Picture yourself hiking through the Alps after your shift. Or hitting the slopes with your snowboard. In Switzerland, every weekend feels like a holiday. You’re minutes from the mountains, three hours from Milan, or peacefully picnicking by a crystal-clear lake behind your house. Best of all? Working as a physiotherapist in Switzerland, you earn a great salary that lets you save money too.
01 -Welcome to Switzerland
Switzerland is located in Central Europe. With five neighbouring countries, Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein and Austria, you can quickly go anywhere. Want to visit family back home? No matter in which direction you need to go, you’re anywhere in Europe within a few hours. Meanwhile, you live in a country where trains run on time and you wake up every morning to a view that never gets old.

Are you a winter sports enthusiast? Perfect. Are you not? Well, you’ll become one naturally. Weekend skiing is as normal here as going to the pub. And in summer? You’ll swim in lakes so clear you can see the bottom. Or hike in mountains that will literally take your breath away. Prefer chilling in the city? Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Lucerne, or Basel are always nearby.
Swiss traditions
Yodeling echoes across valleys, alphorns sound at village festivals, and everyone agrees to a night of cheese fondue. Moving to a new country takes some adjustment, but we’re happy to help you find a suitable community where you’ll feel at home. From a buddy who made the same move to WhatsApp groups by region. You’re integrated before you know it.

Four different climates
Rain where you are? Hop on a train and find sunshine two hours away. Switzerland has four climates, so there’s always a place with nice weather. Winter brings skiing and snowboarding. In summer, you’ll go paddle boarding on the mountain lakes. You’ll always have a new reason to get into nature and see something new.
02 – Yes, life in Switzerland is relatively expensive
Don’t be shocked by supermarket prices. Yes, bread is more expensive and occasionally, you’ll have to rub your eyes and look twice when you order a drink on a terrace. But the big difference? As a physiotherapist in Switzerland, you also earn more than in other European countries. You pay those higher costs from a generous salary, saving 1000 to 1500 euros per month quickly. Quality of life is often better. From food to public transport that always, and we mean always, runs on time.

Living in Switzerland feels international
As a starter, you can choose shared accommodation, a so-called WG, where you live with other international professionals. Many physios first look for temporary furnished housing until they find something permanent.
Currently, 26% of Switzerland’s population was born abroad. English will get you far. Fortunately, you speak German well enough to connect with the people around you.

03 – Working as a physio in Switzerland
A 42-hour work week might sound long, but here’s the difference: those 42 hours mean actual treatment time, not endless admin in your spare time. Besides, Swiss people love breaks. It is common to have a long lunch break, during which you can go for a brisk walk or have a meal outside with your colleagues.

Physiotherapy as you learned it
In Switzerland, you treat people instead of endlessly updating your administration. You get time to listen, thoroughly examine, and provide the necessary help. Are you going for hands-off physiotherapy where the client actively gets to work themselves? That approach is also valued and encouraged in Switzerland.
You have the freedom to treat patients the way you believe is best for them. You work with doctors, have access to the most modern equipment, and get room to specialize.

Your salary as a physio in Switzerland
Let’s talk money. As a physiotherapist in Switzerland, you’re paid in Swiss francs. Euros are also widely accepted. Converted, you’ll almost have 1000 to 1500 euros per month left over to save, travel, or do fun things. You can of course also use the money to pay off your student debt. That’s freedom you don’t have as a starter in many other countries. Plus, you’ll also get satisfaction from your work as a physio in Switzerland. What are you waiting for?
